I love what David said in 1 Samuel 17:46-47, “Today the LORD will conquer you … [so that] the whole world will know that there is a God in Israel! And everyone assembled here will know that the LORD rescues His people, but not with sword and spear. This is the LORD’s battle.”
Oh, Almighty God, if I lived my life with that kind of courage, confidence and comfort, how sweet it would be. Yes, there would be struggles and tears, but peace would reign more easily and frequently in my heart.
I expect that Your conquering will not necessarily go the way I imagine or want, and I expect that it will not necessarily align with my desires and wishes. But I know what is true—You are omniscient and know what is best. I trust You.
In the end, I want You to be glorified. I want the world to see that You are God, worthy of all glory, honor and praise.
I am never alone in my battles. You are always ready to rescue me. In fact Your Word says in Isaiah 46:4 “Even to your old age and gray hairs I am He, I am He who will sustain you. I have made you and I will carry you; I will sustain you and I will rescue you.”
So, as David did, I will come to You—the LORD of Heaven's Armies. I will rely on Your Word to bring me courage, strength, comfort and peace. I will pray to You boldly and confidently, revealing my complete heart—even those thoughts and emotions that I fear will anger or disappoint You. You want it all, my complete self, and with that You will do a mighty work.
In the Almighty and Glorious Name of Jesus I pray.
Amen.
