Day 3

By Mike Maxwell

It was another wonderful in beautiful Costa Rica! It was our first work day, so our driver Javier carried us the fifteen minute drive to the church where we are working on a two story building that will serve as a parsonage for the pastor on the first floor and church classrooms on the second floor.

We met our job bosses, who gave us excellent instructions and we quickly realized their strong work ethic, pride in their work and attention to quality control!

We worked on cross beams, filled and leveled the first floor in preparation for concrete, bent and tied rebar, laid tin and placed spacers for the second floor. All of this in between a couple drenching rains!

For lunch we were treated to an amazing traditional Costa Rican meal called The Married Man, which consisted of salad, chicken, rice and refried beans. But even better than that it was served on China, glasses and elegant table cloths! We were so dirty we didn’t feel worthy!

Since we didn’t have Vacation Bible School, after work we had time for another trip to the Panadreria (bakery) and ice cream shop!

In the evening, some of the team went on an nature tour and saw a sloth, frogs, opossums, a jungle cat, hardworking ants, different plant life and so much more while others bonded while relaxing and playing cards.

Needless to say, after our devotion time together, we were all ready to lay our weary bodies down, tired but very excited to see what tomorrow holds!
