Each stone has a decal on them that has meaning to the patient (they get to pick them out). Some have crosses, sports teams, flowers, etc. The patient uses the stone for comfort or to hold in their hands. Before they pass the Hospice takes a finger print and puts it on the stone and tells the patient it is one last gift they will give their family. After the patient passes away the nurses give the family the stone in a box or small bag with their loved ones fingerprint on it. It sounds small but it has great meaning to the patient and the family.
